Fitness/TrainingPumping Iron
Most of the items we purchased with the help of our grant were fitness items. Our PE department has plenty of physical activity supplies/materials, but our primary focus was fitness. It is extremely important for ALL individuals to remain fit and active and the fitness equipment we purchased permits us to include students with disabilities (of all levels and categories) in participating in independent and assisted fitness activities. These pictures are just a few of the items we purchased. |
KickballWho doesn't love a good game of kickball?
With the use of bases from the PE department and our large therapy ball, we were able to create a game of kickball for everyone. The therapy ball permitted students in wheelchairs to have the ability to "kick" the ball, while also creating an environment for the general education students that was "out of their comfort zone." Everyone had a great time laughing, goofing off as they all tried to figure out how to kick, catch, and throw the huge ball. The smiles on everyone's faces (and I mean everyone) was a sure sign of success. |
Basketball
Raider All-Stars
This project and idea began after our All-Star basketball program had become such a huge success and staple within the school. Everyone, including teachers and administration, looked forward to the games. However, basketball season was only 4 games long and what is the one activity that the majority of students in PE do during Instant Activity? Shoot Hoops! We purchased an adaptive hoop so that our students in wheelchairs or with other disabilities that have difficulty reaching the typical size hoop could participate. Instant Activity became inclusive and eventually became pretty competitive within the classes. One of the students from class thought it would be a great idea to have everyone shoot at the adaptive hoop (similar to the kickball game) in order to level the playing field and it was simply incredible to watch!
